Importers recently claimed that the increase in the sales tax (ST), the increase in customs duties and income tax, the cost of imported second-hand clothing increased by 5 times.

Mohamed Osman Farooqi, Muhammad Usman Farooqi, President of the Pakistan second-hand clothing trade association (PSCMA), said that the Federal Tax Commission issued the SRO-509 notice in March 15, 2011, levying a 17% sales tax, raising the income tax from 5% to 6%, and levying a 5% tariff on imported products.

He disclosed that second-hand clothing imports were not collected before.

However, after the introduction of general sales tax and the increase of tariff and income tax, the cost of secondhand clothing imports increased, for example, the initial cost of importing second-hand clothes from a container was 14000 rupees, and now it is 18500 rupees.

He claims that there will be 100000 people who are directly engaged in second-hand clothing business. They will be affected. However, because of the rising price of second-hand clothing, the poor in society will also bear the burden of rising clothing prices.
